At least 13 people died from hunger recently in Besseelia County in South Sudan’s Wau state, a local official said.
Besselia County Commissioner Francis Ibrahim told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that although the security situation has greatly improved, the humanitarian situation is worsening as people starve due to lack of food.
Ibrahim said the recent violence in Wau town forced many people to go back to the county. He pointed out that they have run out of food, since they had not stored food due to continued clashes.
The local official called on humanitarian aid organisations to quickly intervene and rescue the starving populations.
