The governor of South Sudan’s proposed Imatong State, Nartisio Loluke, says dozens of children have dropped out from schools due to hunger in Kiyala and Torit counties.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Loluke pointed out that humanitarian conditions are deteriorating due to shortages of food in all the counties of his state.
He said shortages of rainfall led to failure of the agricultural season last year.
Loluke added that he received reports from schools in Kiyala and Torit that children have dropped out from schools.
The governor said he travelled to Juba last week to discuss the hunger in the state with the World Food Programme, adding that they promised him to bring 4 tonnes of corns to help the starving people.
He said the trucks are on their way to the state and the corns will be distributed to the affected counties.
Loluke urged parents to be patient and encourage their children to go to school.
