About 2,000 people who were living in the SPLA-North areas in Sudan’s Blue Nile State have fled to refugee camps in Ethiopia due to lack of food last week, according  Al-Samawi Adlan, food security officer in Blue Nile’s SPLA-N controlled areas.

About 2,000 people who were living in the SPLA-North areas in Sudan’s Blue Nile State have fled to refugee camps in Ethiopia due to lack of food last week, according  Al-Samawi Adlan, food security officer in Blue Nile’s SPLA-N controlled areas.

Adlan told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that a large number of families had fled from the areas of Yabus Bala, Yabus Al-Kubri, and Abangro because of hunger caused by failure of this year’s agricultural season, besides the absence of humanitarian organizations.

The rebel official noted that 12 people died of hunger in their areas.

For her part, Marta Ahmed, a refugee at Sherkole camp in northern Ethiopia, told Radio Tamazuj that about 60 Blue Nile refugees have already arrived in the camp. The refugee added that about 600 others were received in Ashuraa camp over the last four days.

“Yes, there are people who have arrived” she said. “About three vehicles were seen, they have arrived, they have four days now, there are men and women.”
