Hunger driving Eastern Equatoria citizens to flee to neighbouring countries

About 10 families flee Imatong State every day to neighbouring Uganda and Kenya in search of food, a top state official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, the Governor of Imatong State, Tobiolo Alberto, said the famine and drought have affected all the counties of his state.

“People are suffering across the 12 counties of the state, because last year the area experienced drought and some few crops that were cultivated got burnt due to the heat. So, many families are now leaving the area, they are going to refugees camps in Uganda and Kenya to look for food,” he said.

Tobiolo blamed insecurity for the rampant famine experienced in the state. He called on humanitarian agencies to quickly intervene and save the people from dying of hunger.
