Hunger drives displaced families out of UN camp in Malakal

More than 100 internally displaced persons at Malakal’s UN Protection of Civilians Site (PoC) flee to neighbouring Sudan due to hunger, an elder inside the camp said.

Aban Yor told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that women and children are leaving the camp daily due to insufficient food, despite humanitarian efforts to deliver food at the camp.

“The situation is not fair, many people are fleeing to Sudan especially women and children, about 200 to 300 are leaving daily. Food ration is not enough that’s why many women and children are leaving the camp,” said Yor.

He pointed out that the women and children flee to Sudan through Renk, adding that: “men also would like to go but the problem is that they fear government forces on the way.”
