At least four people have died of hunger in Torit County in South Sudan’s Imatong State from January until March, a local official said.
Torit County Commissioner Lima Albino told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the county has been experiencing famine since the beginning of the year leading to massive displacements in the area.
“Since January up to now we lost four people due to the famine and we have reported this to the RRC. Due to the lack of rain, more than 200 farms could not produce food, so these have forced many to flee to the neighbouring countries,” said Albino.
Albino called on humanitarian agencies to quickly intervene and provide people for the hungry people in Torit.
