Hunger claims eight lives in Lopit West County, Imatong State

At least eight people have died of hunger in Lopit West County in South Sudan’s Imatong State from April until May, a local official said.

Lopit West County Commissioner Safarino Lofuni told Radio Tamazuj today that his county has been experiencing famine since the beginning of this year, leading to displacement of local residents in the area.

He pointed out that at least eight people including women and children died of hunger between April and May.

The commissioner urged the international community to intervene and help the needy people before their situation deteriorates further.
