More than 5000 displaced people in South Kordofan continue to face an increasingly difficult situation as they take refuge from fighting in open spaces around Tungoli mountain in the Nuba Mountains, according to citizens in the area.
Having travelled from the areas of Khor Dalib, Um-Barnibetha, Faith Abdallah, Habila Dalami, Dalany and Kadugli in addition to Kualib, they are suffering from lack of food, healthcare services and education, sources told Radio Tamazuj.
“People are hungry but there is no food, no aid or assistance,” a resident confirmed.
Noting that there are no NGOs operating in the region except national ones, who are unable to provide any assistance, those taking shelter in the area warned that the situation will deteriorate much further in a few months if the situation does not improve.
Further highlighting their situation, they confirmed the failure of the agricultural season this year in South Kordofan due to inconsistent rainfall as well as the general insecurity throughout the region.
Citizens of South Kordofan have been suffering from the impacts of civil war since June 2011. Groups in the neighbouring state of Blue Nile are also now at war with the Sudanese government who have responded with aerial bombardment throughout the region.
