Hunger and diseases in rural areas around Kadugli

Thousands of displaced people in Kadugli Locality in South Kordofan at Kannga, Suguli, Kiga and Alkahilaat areas are suffering from difficult living conditions amid continuous rains and reports of deaths among children due to diseases and hunger.

Mr. Kabi an official and observer of Humanitarian Affairs for the SPLM in Kadugli told Radio Tamazuj that thousands of displaced people and local residents in Kannga, Suguli and Kiga areas suffer poor living conditions due to the ongoing war in South Kordofan, amid lack of humanitarian services whether from the government or aid organizations.

Kabi stated that approximately 16 thousand displaced people in caves and trapped in the mountains of the area continue to live in fear of air bombardment. Since the outbreak of war in South Kordofan they have been cut off from humanitarian services which are available in government areas, he pointed out.

The official contended that the insistence of the Sudanese government not to allow humanitarian organizations to deliver aid to SPLM-controlled areas has increased their suffering.

He explained that health conditions are worsening, particularly among children, due to the continuous rains in the mountains with the absence of tarpaulins and tents. He pointed to the spread of epidemic disease and lack of medicine, with increasing cases of malnutrition among children and reports of deaths.

Kabi predicted that the humanitarian situation would worsen over time if it continues as it is.
