More than 500 families who had fled the Ezo area to the Democratic Republic of Congo following tensions between the SPLA and the local community last year have returned and are now facing shortages of food and shelter, according to a local official.

Luciano Batendi, Commissioner of Ezo County in South Sudan’s Western Equatoria State said on Radio Tamazuj’s regular programme ‘With the Commissioner’ that the security situation in Ezo is stable, pointing out that the routes leading to the area are open.

He stressed that the returned families are in dire conditions due to shortage of food and basic services, amid absence of humanitarian organizations.
