Humanitarian conditions are deteriorating in Mundri of South Sudan’s Western Equatoria state following clashes last year between SPLA and other armed groups in the area, a church leader said.
Pastor Felix Zara Kurai told Radio Tamazuj some displaced people have returned to their homes, but the county lacks foods, drinking water, and medicine.
Kurai said that some families cannot afford to eat one meal a day. He blamed the closure of the road between Juba and Mundri West for the shortage of goods.
Kurai said there has been a sharp rise in the price of goods coming from Yei county. The price of a bar of soap has reached 25 SSP and there is no sugar or cooking oil, he said.
The pastor stressed that many displaced people are still stranded in the bush and some have fled to Uganda fearing renewed clashes.
Kurai asked the state and national parliament to open the road between Juba and Mundri and to solve the issues.
