House fire kills child at refugee camp in South Sudan

A child of about three years of age died in a fire in one of the tents in Yida refugee camp in South Sudan on Thursday. The fire broke out at about 2:00 in the afternoon after a girl carrying fire entered the dwelling. Rescuers who came to the scene saved the younger brother of the victim but did not realize that the three-year old girl was in the same room because smoke blocked their visibility. The parents of the late were outside of the home at the time of the fire. A large crowd gathered around the fire in grief and disbelief at this incident which was the first of its kind at the camp.Photo: A woman grieves near the scene of a house fire in Yida in northern Unity State.
