Citizens in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state have celebrated the World AIDS Day on 1 December at the Isaac stadium in Wau town. Several sectors participated, including the armed forces, civil society organisations, as well UN forces in the state.

The celebration was organised by the State Health Ministry in coordination with the South Sudanese HIV/AIDS Commission.

The acting Health Minister, Adil Atnasio, reported that the HIV infection rate has decreased by 1.6 per cent in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.

He attributed the reason to “the great efforts exerted by the stakeholders and the government agencies to eliminate the virus”.

Northern Bahr el Ghazal’s Deputy-Governor, Zachariah Joseph Garang, called upon the youth to avoid sexual relationships out of wedlock, urging them to embark on sport activities.
