Hippo kills civilian in Aweil South County

A hippopotamus has killed one person and critically injured another in Aweil South County in Aweil state, an officer in charge of wildlife protection said.

The incident happened last week in Mathmouk area in Aweil South County.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, John Akot, Director for Wildlife Protection said the relevant authorities had sent a force to protect the people of Wathmuok from possible threats from animals.

“It was a big problem. The hippo killed a civilian named Manyuat and it has also killed cows, goats and attacked cattle camps,’’ said John.

He pointed out that the exact circumstances of the attack by a hippopotamus are being investigated in the area.
