High prices of drugs in Kosti

The price of drugs and healthcare in White Nile state’s Kosti hospital has substantially increased according to family members of the patients there.

They have complained particularly about the rising cost of life-saving drugs to treat treat malaria and typhoid fever.  Malaria drugs have recently increased in price from 9 Sudanese pounds (SDG) to 15SDG while typhoid treatment has increased from 24SDG to 35SDG.

They also highlighted an increase in the price of consultation fees from 3SDG to 5SDG as well as those of laboratory tests.

A Presidential decree in Sudan is supposed to ensure that the treatment of children is free of charge but these price increases are reported to apply to children as well as adults.
