Abyei citizens raised complaint about the high prices of goods at the markets in the Abyei area, particularly in the towns of Aneet, Agok and Abyei.

Chol Deng, chairperson for the chamber of commerce in Abyei, told Radio Tamazuj that the price hikes are a result of high taxes imposed on traders by authorities in South Sudanese states such as Unity and Warrap.

He mentioned that the prices increase on a daily basis. The price for a bag of sugar went up from 220 SSP to 400 SSP and a bag of sorghum was raised from 450 SSP to 900 SSP. Chol pointed out that Abyei has experienced a higher increase in the prices of goods compared to any other states in Sudan as well as South Sudan

Citizens are concerned about the high prices and ask their leaders to make the prices more affordable.
