High Court upholds death sentence against cop who killed woman in Khartoum

Sudan’s High Court has upheld the death sentence of a police officer who was convicted of murdering Awadia Ajabna in al-Dem neighbourhood in Khartoum in 2012.

Previously, the offender’s defense lawyers appealed the court's decision which charged their client with premeditated murder under article 130 of the Sudanese penal code.

Awadiya, who was a woman’s rights activist, was shot dead by Lieutenant Hamid Ali Hamid during an altercation between police officers and her family in the Dem residential area in Khartoum.
