A security official in Lakes State has claimed youths from his state killed more than a hundred cattle raiders from neighboring Unity State during fighting in Rumbek North.

The raids occurred on Sunday when an unknown group allegedly from Unity State attacked four camps, attempting to steal thousands of head of cattle. State Security Advisor Marial Amoum Malek says four cattle camps were attacked.

He told the UN Radio Miraya yesterday, “From both sides, those who lost their lives are 157 in total, Rumbek North 25, Unity State 132, which makes 157. The wounded on the other side is not clear, but on the side of Rumbek North, it is 62.”

“And 500 head of cattle have not been recovered, so it is a huge loss. The rest are still moving in the forest because they do not know the direction to go, so the number may increase at any time,” he said.

Officials from neighboring Unity State have yet to comment on these claims.
