Herders accused of raping two women in Damazin

Two displaced women at Gari camp were raped by a group of herders in the eastern Damazin town in Sudan’s Blue Nile State last week, a local source said.

Two displaced women at Gari camp were raped by a group of herders in the eastern Damazin town in Sudan’s Blue Nile State last week, a local source said.

The source told Radio Tamazuj the incident took place when several displaced women were intercepted by herders on their way to bring fuel.

He said two women were raped while the rest managed to escape. A medical doctor confirmed the rape. The authorities have not arrested the perpetrators.

Situation stable

Separately, Blue Nile Governor Hussein Yasin Hamad said that the security situation is relatively calm in the area.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Yasin accused the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North (SPLA-North) of rejecting peace.

He pointed out that compensation for displaced families in Roseires villages is ongoing. He added that his government recently compensated a group of people from Fazugli area which was not included in the compensation program.

The top official disputed reports that the villagers who are living in Roseires, Gari, and other areas were forcibly displaced from Bau locality.
