Heavy taxes levied by the local authorities and restriction on traders have affected border trade between West Kordofan and South Sudan’s Northern Bahr al Ghazal State.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, several traders reported the restriction on movements of trucks carrying commodities along the common border between Sudan and South Sudan.
They also accused the local authorities in Northern Bahr al Ghazal of imposing heavy taxes on them. “A transit fee for one vehicle reaches 900 SSP,” one trader said. The complaining traders called on the two governments to reach an agreement that can facilitate their trade.
