The manager of the Aweil rice scheme announced that the plating process of rice has been stopped by heavy rains over the past two days.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Ahou Deng Kuot, who is in charge of the Aweil rice scheme, said the rains will disrupt his department’s plan to expand the scheme to 3,000 hectares during this year’s planting season.
In March, Ahou announced a plan to expand the project to 3,000 hectares during this year’s farming season. The official said he discussed with businessmen and government officials to find ways to provide manures and pesticides.
