Authorities in Likuangule County of South Sudan’s Boma state say heavy rains have destroyed property, houses and people’s livelihoods this month.

Authorities in Likuangule County of South Sudan’s Boma state say heavy rains have destroyed property, houses and people's livelihoods this month.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Likuangule County Commissioner, John Guguli said more than 2,000 head of cattle died and nearly 1500 houses were destroyed by the heavy rains in five localities in the county.

He pointed out that many people have been displaced to higher ground following the rains and are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

Guguli appealed to aid organizations working in the country to provide humanitarian support to those affected. 

Many areas of South Sudan have been flooded due to heavy rains since June.
