Health workers in Blue Nile capital threaten strike

Workers at the Ministry of Health in the capital of Blue Nile state prepared on Friday for an open-ended strike owing to failure of the authorities to respond to their demands for better pay.

The disgruntled workers say the Ministry of Finance failed to keep promises to pay benefits to workers in the ministry. The employees have raised a memorandum to the governor indicating the dues and special pay that they expect for a period of six months.

In the event that the governor not respond to their demands, they intend to engage in open-ended strike this week. Sources at the ministry in Blue Nile state told Radio Tamazuj that the conditions of workers are terrible and that they complained repeatedly to the Ministry of Finance demanding better wages and allowances, along with benefits that have not been paid for six months.

Security agencies are alleged to have repeatedly threatened the strikers.
