A health worker was killed in an apparent revenge attack in Twic East County of Jonglei state on Sunday, local officials said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Chol Leek, the county health director, said his colleague Reng Ayi was gunned down by an assailant while working at Paliou Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) on Sunday afternoon.
“The deceased was a lab technician. He was working at the Paliou PHCC in Ajuong Payam when he was shot dead by a gunman who entered the facility and asked everyone to leave before opening fire on Reng,” Leek said.
He condemned the attack and called for the arrest of the assailant.
For his part, Deng Gak Atem, the Twic East County executive director, confirmed the murder of the health worker and said the killer was being looked for.
“No one has been caught in connection with the incident so far but we dispatched security forces to search for the assailant in the drylands,” he said.
