Health workers at Al Sabah Children’s Hospital in Juba said between eight to ten children who visit the facility daily need blood transfusion due to Anemia disease.
Anema is a condition in which a person has fewer red blood cells than normal and feels very weak and tired.
Laura Paul, acting medical director of the hospital, told Radio Tamazuj that most of the children who suffer from anemia and need blood transfusion can’t get it due to blood shortages at the blood bank.
She called on well-wishers to donate blood to save lives of the sick children who need blood transfusion. “The blood of an adult can save lives of three children who need blood” She said.
Meanwhile, Augustino Martin, director of the blood bank, said most of those who give blood are patient’s relatives in South Sudan.
