Health officials in Yei River State have called on government troops and opposition forces to stop fighting and allow access to areas near the common border with the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo to ensure creation of awareness about Ebola.

Speaking to Radio Tamazju on Tuesday, Yei County Medical Director, Michael Lugala said a health committee was formed last Friday to travel to areas near the DRC to educate the local population on Ebola prevention measures, saying awareness is crucial in deterring the spread of Ebola.

However, Lugala said the roads that lead to Lasu and Libogo areas near Congo are closed as the warring parties continue to clash there, hindering the work of health teams.

The World Health Organization this month announced that there are reports of Ebola cases in Congo
