Doctors at the Aweil main referral hospital say that cases of malaria are increasing at the same time as supplies of anti-malarial medication are running low. The shortage is raising concerns that malarial cases could continue to spike.

Dr. Wol Wol, the acting hospital director, said that 150 patients are diagnosed each day with malaria, and the number is likely to go up.

“When there is a lot of rain I think malaria patients will increase. We are asking the Ministry of Health in Juba to send us medicine as soon as possible because we are lacking of anti–malarial medicine” Wol said
