Health of Sudan’s jailed opposition leader worsens

Health conditions of the jailed leader of the opposition Sudanese Congress Party Ibrahim al-Sheikh is significantly deteriorating in En Nahud town.

al-Sheikh, who has been imprisoned since June, rejected treatment at the Police Hospital in the capital Khartoum, according the party’s spokesman Abu Baker Yusuf.

Yusuf told Radio Tamazuj Thursday that medical checkups in the Police Hospital found al-Sheikh is suffering from numerous chronic diseases.

He said his boss refused to undergo a surgical operation after being provoked by doctors over his remarks on the government militia known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Yusuf noted the sick leader party returned to En Nahud without receiving any treatment.

He said the trial of al-Sheikh has not started despite the charges leveled against him by the Attorney General.

The head of the SCP party was arrested two months ago in his hometown En Nuhud after publicly criticizing the RSF and accusing its elements of committing abuses against civilians.
