The National Ministry of Health in South Sudan in collaboration with partners on Friday launched an awareness campaign for blood donations in Juba.

During the launch, the undersecretary of the health ministry Dr. Makur Koriom called upon the public to come out in large numbers to donate blood.

“Any adult in good health condition should come to donate blood,” he said.

He pointed out that they wanted to save lives of fathers, mothers and children who die due to loss of blood, stressing his ministry’s support for the campaign.

The World Health Organization (WHO), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Gemtel Company as well as Centre for Diseases Control took part in the campaign.

A blood bank was opened officially in the capital Juba in July.
