Harsh conditions for displaced Awlad Himeid tribe in South Kordofan

Thousands of the Awlad Himeid tribe have been displaced by recent fighting in south-eastern Kordofan, in an area inaccessible to aid organizations. They are said to now face harsh conditions.

A representative of the Awlad Himeid tribe from Jadida Abu Nawara area of South Kordofan told Radio Tamazuj that the number of displaced people from the area have reached 8000 due to the recent clashes between the tribesmen and the rebel group allegedly linked to the SPLM-DC opposition party of South Sudan headed by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawein.

Radio Tamazuj could not verify this figure. According to the source, some of the displaced people fled to the Tartar area, while the majority headed to  Abu Jubeiha area, Sirajia Locality

He pointed out that these displaced people may move onward to other safer areas should they continue to experience such current harsh humanitarian conditions.

He also complained that the Sudanese government refused to settle them in the IDP camps where they would be able to receive assistance.

“We will not tolerate such conditions as two to three of our patients are dying daily in Abu Jubeiha hospital as there is nobody taking care of them. The Sudanese government doesn’t want to assist us or to allow NGOs to help us,” he said.

“We will proceed to the areas of White Nile state because the government is protecting the DC rebels instead of protecting us the civilians and now our people are in open spaces unless those who have some relatives here are the ones who managed to get a place for accommodations,” one of the tribesmen said.
