About 1,500 cows were stolen during a raid in Uror County of Jonglei State on Wednesday, authorities said.

Tang Chatim, the county commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj that the animals were forcefully taken while they were being grazed in the Paluony area on Wednesday afternoon.

“Those 1,500 cows were taken from Paguor and Waar areas. The attackers overpowered those herding the cows and fortunately, no one was killed or injured,” he said.

Gatbel Machar, the county police inspector, accused suspected armed bandits from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) of involvement in the attack and said that they are being pursued by the local youth.

For his part, Jay Adingra Alual, the GPAA information minister, said he is not been officially informed by the Jonglei State counterparts on the incident but he said that there is an ongoing peace campaign in the GPAA villages bordering Jonglei for peaceful coexistence.
