Armed bandits raided 51 head of cattle in Duk County of Jonglei State on Friday, a local official said.

John Chatim, the Duk County commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the cattle were stolen after they were returned from a grazing field in the Dukpadiet area on Friday evening.

He said local youth are pursuing the raiders who are moving towards the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) to retrieve the stolen animals.

“Our youth have been pursuing the raiders since Friday. So, we are appealing to our Pibor counterparts to deploy security forces to their boundaries with us so that they will be able to identify the raiders and recover those cows to avoid any confrontation,” Commissioner Chatim said.

For his part, John Amor, the Pibor County commissioner, said he is not aware of the incident.

“There is no communication network in those areas bordering Jonglei State so I am not aware of what had happened there,” he said.
