Authorities in Nyepo County, Yei river state claimed up to 500 herds of cattle belonging to the local population in Lori Payam have been raided under gun point in the area on Sunday.

Nyepo County Commissioner Julius Lokonga told Radio Tamazuj that the cattle raiders came from Jonglei state and forcefully took 540 from the civilians and were being driven towards Juba County. Lokonga says the raid has caused fear among the civil population in the area.

He calls on the heads of Yei River and Jonglei state Governments to intervene on the matter so that the cattle are returned to the rightful owners.
“Some cattle keepers from Jonglei came into Lori Payam in Nyepo County and took 540 herds of cattle belonging to the local civilians. We are not able to recover them because they have been driven towards Juba. And that alone has caused fear and people have started moving away from the area. Therefore, I would like to appeal to the state authorities to intervene so that these cattle are returned to the right owners” he added.

Kajo-Keji County, according to the commissioner, has witnessed series of cattle raiding over the past many years.
