A primary school teacher was on Tuesday murdered by gunmen in Cueibet town of South Sudan’s Gok State, local officials said.
Isaac Mayom Malek, the state minister of local government, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that Mr. Marial Marial, a teacher at Cueibet Girls Primary School, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen.
“The teacher was killed at around 8 pm in the market, “Mayom said.
The state minister pointed out that investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators.” There are people who are primary suspects but investigations are still underway,” he said.
Samuel Mabor, a relative of the deceased, said the teacher was killed in what he described as a revenge attack in Cueibet town.
“The incident occurred at 7:30 pm, and those who killed him are not known but it was just a revenge killing,” Mabor said.
“As relatives of the deceased, we are trying to calm down the situation. We have been telling the people that the government will look into it and the culprits will definitely be arrested,” he added.
Greater Lakes state continues to be locked in a cycle of inter-clan revenge attacks.
