Gunmen kill SSPDF soldier, injure Somali national in Lakes State

A road ambush by armed men in Cueibet county of South Sudan’s Lakes State Sunday has left an SSPDF soldier dead and a Somali driver injured, police in Cuieibet have confirmed.

A road ambush by armed men in Cueibet county of South Sudan's Lakes State Sunday has left an SSPDF soldier dead and a Somali driver injured, police in Cuieibet have confirmed.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, police deputy commissioner in Cueibet Town colonel Machar Muorwel said the incident occurred in the Kabur William Deng Nhial area on Sunday.

"I am now in the remote village that is out of Cueibet Town. But I heard of that road ambushed which killed SSPDF soldier and a Somalian driver was wounded," he said. 

The police officer said he has ordered patrols along the main road between Cueibet and Rumbek.

"The security forces since the incident occurred yesterday are making road patrols to monitor the movement of people along the road," he adds.

The Executive Director of Cueibet County Makuac Chol said security forces took the body of the SSPDF soldier and the injured driver to Rumbek Hospital.

Chol says the vehicle that was ambushed has been abandoned in the middle of the road where the incident happened and the armed criminals escaped.
