One person was killed and 15 houses were torched when armed men attacked an area located in Tonj South County of Warrap State last Tuesday, a local official said.
The incident occurred in Tonj South municipality.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj last Wednesday, Marko Mabior Ajec, the county Executive Director said attackers exchanged fire with the organized forces, before they were eventually driven out of town.
“Yesterday [Tuesday] at around 11:30pm armed youth came and attacked a village called Warkei and in the process, they burned down houses and killed an insane person,” he explained.
Ajec said the attack caused panic and displacement within Tonj town as residents moved around in search of places for safety.
He assured the residents that the organized forces would do all that is required to protect their lives and properties from the attackers.
The local official urged residents to remain calm as authorities investigate and find solutions to the problem.
He also appealed to President Salva Kiir to expedite the appointment of state governors to fill the existing power vacuum in the country.
According to previous reports, the routine of intercommunal clashes in many parts of the country prevails due to lack of an efficient justice system.
