A national security officer was on Thursday night killed by unknown gunmen in South Sudan’s Torit State, police said.
The state police spokesperson, Col. Mathew Ochan Jacob told Radio Tamazuj Saturday that Dominic Odoviko was shot and killed by unknown assailants at Inkas residential area in Torit town.
“The incident happened on Thursday at Inkas residential area. The sound of a gun was heard at 9:00 pm, but nobody brought the information to us until yesterday [Friday]. I received a call from somebody that someone there was shot and he died,” Ochan said.
He added, “I went to the crime scene with a police investigator from the CID [Criminal Investigation Department] and we found that a national security officer called Dominic Odoviko, 28, was shot near his father’s home with one bullet and he died on the spot”.
Ochan said the police have launched an investigation into the killing and a case has been opened to ensure the perpetrator is found.
The deceased, a family member said, had spent just eight days from the day he returned from his workplace in Paloch area of Northern Upper Nile.
