Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Philip Aguer, the governor of Jonglei said the incident occurred when the cattle traders traveling from Fangak and Bieh states were ambushed and 6 people killed by attackers suspected to have escaped from a prison in Duk Padiet area.

Aguer noted that 70 heads of cattle were stolen during the incident, adding that authorities in Duk Padiet are pursuing the assailants.

In retaliation, the relatives of those killed launched an attack in Duk Pagak as they believe that the attackers came from Duk Pagak, killing 3 people and looting property of unknown value.

Governor Aguer pointed out that the residents of Duk Pagak are now living in fear and panic of an imminent attack.

He revealed that he is communication with his counterparts in Fangak and Bieh states to ensure that calm returns to the region.
