Gunmen kill 9 farmers in N-W Blue Nile

Nine farmers were found dead in the areas of Buut and Gireiwa in Blue Nile State after clashing with unidentified gunmen. The incident spread fear among farm laborers in north-western Blue Nile on Monday.

An armed group consisting of ten people attacked agricultural projects Sunday night in the area of Gireiwa. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, multiple sources said that the gunmen attacked the farmers, fought with them and left 9 dead.

Farmers reported that the owner of an agricultural scheme in Buut area was among the dead. They said the unknown gunmen after dispersing the farmers looted their properties and scared cattle away.

Further, farmers pointed out that a series of security incidents has hindered agricultural work along the border between Blue and White Nile states. This incident has forced farmers to flee their agricultural projects northward to the Mazmum area.
