Three foreign traders and a conductor were killed by unknown gunmen while traveling near Rumbek town in South Sudan’s Lakes State on Sunday night, a local official told Radio Tamazuj.
Lakes State Acting Minister of Information Jok Ayom confirmed the incident saying that police in the state have not yet apprehended any perpetrators.
Separately, Lakes State Minister of Physical Infrastructure Abraham Mayen Kuc said five were killed claiming they were shot in what appeared to be mob action after a truck driver knocked dead one person.
Radio Miraya identified the victims as three Somalis, one Ugandan and one South Sudanese national, saying the incident took place at Abyei-ajok area.
The radio station also reported that more than 200 trucks have are stuck between Rumbek and Wulu County because of impassable stretches of the road. Mayen says efforts are being made by the state administration to fix the poor roads.
Meanwhile, two foreign traders were recently killed in Wau and three Eritrean traders were killed on Sunday in Maridi.
