Authorities in Unity State have confirmed that a prominent businessman identified as Ninrew Tap Biliu Kuolang and Gatdit Riak Mut, a civilian, were killed by unknown gunmen in Leer County on Sunday and Monday respectively.
The state acting information minister David Gai Jiejor told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the police are investigating the death of the businessman at the Adokbar area in Leer County.
“Two days ago (Sunday), a businessman was killed in Adokbar, his name is Ninrew Tap. He was killed by an unknown person,” he said. “The government is doing an investigation to make sure that the criminal is brought to book.”
According to Gai, the businessman’s death is not linked to any communal dispute or revenge killings.
“You know, sometimes people feel jealous when somebody is doing well in their business. This is what happened,” he alleged.
The minister said the other civilian, Gatdit Riak Mut was accidentally killed by an unidentified soldier.
He claimed that according to the information he received, the culprit, a soldier, had a dispute with someone and he killed Riak accidentally.
