Gunmen kill 2 including senior army officer in Malakal

At least two people including a senior SSPDF officer were killed last evening in Malakal town of Upper Nile State, the police confirmed.

At least two people including a senior SSPDF officer were killed last evening in Malakal town of Upper Nile State, the police confirmed.

The acting commissioner of police Nyok Bol Ajiing, told Radio Tamazuj today that unknown gunmen shot and killed Brigadier General Arop Okeio and Mr. Juliano Ambrose, the coordinator of the South Sudan Council of Churches for Upper Nile State. 

“They were from the church in Malakia coming to town at around 7:20 PM. These two gentlemen were not from the same family but they were friends and they are from different areas. Arop from Tunja and Juliano is from Kodok,” he explained.

The senior police official said no suspects have been arrested so far but investigations into the matter have been launched.

Bol said the bodies of the victims were handed over to their relatives for burial.

“Mr. Juliano's body was taken to Kodok while Arop's body was also to be laid to rest in Tunja,” he said.

He pointed out that despite the killings, the town has remained calm.
