Gunmen injured a shopkeeper in his arm in an attempt to steal money from the shop in Juba’s Hai Referendum area, eyewitnesses said.

A resident from the area said the incident occurred Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. The criminals first entered one of the houses and stole one mobile phone at gunpoint.

The six gunmen exchanged fire with two SPLA soldiers but there were no casualties. One suspect was arrested and was seen taken to a police post at Hai Referendum market.

A woman whose house was raided said she was locked into a room at gunpoint. “They asked me to give them money at gunpoint but I said I had no money so they locked me in the room,” she said.

“One of the attackers on seeing a meat which I was preparing for supper told me to bring that meat… ‘This is the meat of our cow,’ one of the attackers told me pointing his gun at me.”
