Gunmen attacked a village in eastern South Kordofan last Thursday, killing or wounding dozens of people. A survivor of the attack has alleged the perpetrators were affiliated to the Sudanese rebel group SPLA-N.

About 19 people were killed and 27 wounded in the attack on Karida village, Gadir Locality in eastern South Kordofan, said an eyewitness.

The assailants also raided over 500 head of cattle and torched the village, forcing dozens of local residents to flee to the locality headquarters in Gadir area for safety.

Local people accuse the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North of involvement in the offensive, whereas the SPLA-N Headquarters has not yet issued any statement either claiming or denying responsibility for the alleged attack.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, eyewitnesses affirmed that heavily armed men on two Land Cruisers waged an attack on Karida village on Thursday morning around 5 a.m.

They started randomly shooting into the village, resulting in 19 dead and 27 wounded, an eyewitness said. The wounded were taken to hospitals in Abu Jubeiha and Talodi Localities for treatment.

Ahmed Abdurrahman, the survivor, accused the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North stationed in Kau Nyaro area of attacking and burning the village.
