Gunmen attack Tambura commissioner’s home, wounding bodyguard

Gunmen in Tambura State attacked the home of Tambura County Commissioner Derek Zenena Fasa on Saturday, officials there reported, wounding one bodyguard in the assault.

The state information minister, Anikumbo Mathew Aime, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that gunmen attacked the residence of the county commissioner in Tambura town on Saturday night.

He further said Derek was unhurt but one of his security guards was injured by the attackers.“The attackers targeted the commissioner’s room. They came and started shooting but government forces came after 15 minutes,” Anikumbo said.

“The commissioner was rescued by the government forces but his property got burnt,” he added.

Minister Anikumbo pointed out that investigations into the attack are underway. He accused soldiers affiliated to the SPLA-IO of involvement in the incident.

“The security committee in the state and SPLM-IO officials agreed that the SPLA-IO soldiers in the area should go to their assembly area,” he said.

SPLM-IO officials in the area could not be reached for comment.
