Large numbers of civilians have fled their homes after an attack by gunmen on Bapiny village in Twic Centre County in South Sudan’s Jonglei State on Christmas Day, a local official said.
At least seven people were reported killed and three others wounded in the attack.
Twic North County Commissioner Deng Mabeny told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that that the attack on Bapiny village displaced a large number of local residents.
He pointed out that the incident resulted in the killing of at least seven people and wounding of three others. The local official added that the local residents managed to kill two attackers during clashes between the two sides.
Mabeny noted that the displaced families are still living in fear that another attack could be carried out the same group in the area at any time. “People are scared, the incident has caused instability in the area, and many people are now planning to leave their houses completely and live in the town,’ he said.
The commissioner complained that there are few police forces to protect citizens and their properties in the area, prompting local youth to defend thier people.
