Gunmen from Gogrial state who authorities believe could be responsible for the killing of at least two people from Abiem area in Tonj state last week has been arrested, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the Commissioner of Apuk South County, Santino Yel called on the communities of Gogrial and Tonj states to remain calm as suspects face the law.
“We have arrested these persons and he is currently in prison and I am trying to calm the situation because we don’t need any problem between us and Tonj or between us and Abiem,” he said.
Tonj state lawmaker, James Machok Deng, who is also from Abiem area called for calm. Deng said according to the information he got, the attackers are believed to have come from Apuk and were identified.
“There shouldn’t be fighting. These are problems being created by people who don’t know what to do in their lives, so they want to create havoc among people who have coexisted for years. My message to the two sides that people should not fight, people should pursue these criminals,” he said.
