An underage boy was abducted by armed assailants in Akobo County, Jonglei State, on Saturday afternoon, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Benson Gatwech, the executive security officer in the county commissioner’s office, said the abductee was in the company of another boy when they were waylaid.
“There was an attack in the Nyandit area of Akobo County on Saturday afternoon,” he said. “The area was attacked and two boys aged 11 were abducted but one of them managed to escape from captivity unhurt.”
Gatwech faulted armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) for involvement in the attack.
However, Oleyo Akwer Nyalus, the GPAA information minister, said they were not aware of the incident.
“We are not aware of the attack and abduction in the area of Akobo,” he stated. “We are yet to receive a report from our commissioners in border areas.”
