Group of women and children from Unity State crosses to Aweil

The government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state has announced the arrival of 7 families comprising of 20 people from Unity State on Thursday. The group appears ethnically to hail from Unity State.

Deng Kuel Kuel, RRC Director told Radio Tamazuj after a press conference on Friday that the group of displaced people from Unity State came via the Sudan border

Deng said the displaced crossed back into South Sudan to Aweil via Majok Nyinthiou from Meiram.

“They IDPs whom we received in Aweil were only women and children,” he told Radio Tamazuj.

When asked about the whereabouts of the men of the families, the women told the government in Aweil that their husbands had remained in Sudan since before independence.

They said they had been thinking to cross to meet their husbands in Khartoum but the Sudan government made it impossible for them to cross, Deng narrated.

According to Deng, he said the state governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal Kuel Aguer Kuel directed the Relief and Rehabilitations Commission and humanitarian agencies in the state to give them enough food and be treated as Aweil citizens.

He said the displaced are now accommodated at the Mosque in Aweil town and the government will allocate them a place in the state because of the rainy season.
