Group of South Sudanese in Kenya launches peace initiative

A group of South Sudanese communities in Kenya calling itself the Ambassadors for Peace, Unity and Reconciliation on Monday launched a new initiative for peace and reconciliation between South Sudanese citizens.

The program that calls for unity and healing among different South Sudanese communities in Nairobi was attended by representatives of the Equatoria, Upper Nile and Bahr al Ghazal regions.

Rev. Christopher Mononye, head of the peace and reconciliation initiative, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that the initiative aims to instil a sense of healing among the communities affected by South Sudan’s civil war.

Christopher pointed out that terrible abuses were perpetrated against the people of South Sudan, while deploring sentiments of tribalism and selfishness among the people of South Sudan whether inside the country or abroad.

He revealed that they will hold dialogues for peace and reconciliation between the South Sudanese communities in Nairobi, adding that they also plan to travel to South Sudan to launch the same initiative. The religious leader appealed to warring parties to stop fighting.
